Thorlos: The Original Western Boot Sock

Thorlos got its start creating a padded sock to be worn in western boots or cowboy boots. Jim Throneburg, the founder and owner of THORLO, met a gentleman who operated several western product stores in Tennessee. After Jim told the store operator that he designed padded socks as functional solutions for specific problems, the store owner asked Jim if he could solve a problem his customers were having. The problem was that in a western boot, in order for the person’s foot to make the “turn” at the heel, he had to give them a size or two larger than their dress shoes. When they stood up and walked around, their heels slipped around in the boots, which was very uncomfortable. People may have loved the way the boots looked, but they didn’t fit properly and weren’t comfortable. The result: lost sales.

After lots of discussion, Jim came up with the idea of an engineered padded sock with an extra- thick heel pocket that would allow the foot to make the turn, but would then fill up the space, making the foot feel both secure and comfortable. This became the first padded sock designed specifically to be worn with a western or cowboy boot, and THORLO was awarded two US patents for them. Justin Boot Company first marketed the padded sock and together both became “standards” in western boot wear.

“I would recommend these socks to anyone looking for comfortable dress socks to wear with cowboy boots.”  John L.

“I’ve tried all brands of boot socks but none of the others compare to the Thorlos. They are awesome!!!!” William T.

Protect Your Feet With Thorlos Clinically-Tested Padding

Thorlos western boot socks will help protect your feet during Western events, equestrian events, everyday casual wear and on the ranch (for cowboys)--and they work in both traditional and fashion boots. While originally designed for fit and comfort, the clinically-tested padding used in the heel and in the ball of the forefoot has been clinically shown to reduce foot pain and pressures. The padding is knitted with proprietary THORLON yarn that has superior moisture- wicking properties (moisture/perspiration is a catalyst for blisters). The padding also has been clinically shown to reduce blisters. Wearing Thorlos clinically-tested padded socks (CTPS) for western boots is an excellent way to help prevent foot conditions; they are exactly the padded socks you need if you currently experience foot discomfort or pain when wearing boots.

“For months my boots were killing my feet. I blamed it all on the boots. Tried these Thorlos Western Socks and no more sore feet even after being on them 12-14 hours! I love these socks and just bought several pair to give to my friends! Thank you Thorlos!” Maureen M.

“I used these socks along with Thorogood Boots and it solved my foot problems. These high quality boot socks along with proper fitting boots eliminated all the issues. I now wear these socks every day.” Roderick. M.

“These are without a doubt the best socks I have ever worn. They are so comfortable and do not fall down into your boot.” Judy L.

“These have the best cushion in the right spots. These are the only boot socks I'll ever buy.” Dawna S.

Thorlos Stay Up – All Day Long

Thorlos CTPS are also designed to stay up all day long and not wrinkle at the ankle. Being boot lovers ourselves, we know there is nothing more aggravating than having to constantly pull up your socks. This is never an issue because our western socks are made with spandex in the top portion.

“Wearing boots for over 30 years and pulling up my socks was a pain. I found these socks in a western store and bought 1 pair then went again and got 2 more then I ordered 5 more. These are the only ones I will wear in my western boots, have never had to pull these up because they stay up.” Norman B.

They are available in two styles:

Style TWD The original designed for Western boots.

Style TWW Designed to be worn with Lacers and Roopers.

“I only wear Thorlos socks. I just bought some Justin Ropers and needed boot socks terribly. So, I bought 2 pair of western dress socks. Yep, they really do stay up all day long. I love them and they are not too tight at the top.” Kathy L.

Thorlo socks are the best thing i have ever put on my feet. I bought a dozen boot socks in 2000. NO EXAGERATION. They have held up all these years. I wear a pair everyday, Monday - Friday. Not one pair have quit! I only started buying new socks because i felt it was time to retire the old ones. 18 years is longer than some people spend on a job. They may be costly when you buy a dozen, but average them out over the years and they are worth every penny.

I have huge muscular calves so its hard to find boot socks that are comfortable. These hug the calf without restricting blood flow. They are comfortable and warm on cold days, and your feet don't over heat on hot days.

    They make my feet happy!

I've worn the Western Thorolos for about 17-18 years. Although I don't ride much any more, the cushion and quality keep my feet and toes comfortable in my muck-boots as I tromp through the pastures, gardens, and hillsides. An added bonus is they are made in the USA! If there was a 10 star rating, I'd select that! Kudos and thanks Thorlos!

Great every day sock for horsewomen or farm girls

These socks are comfortable and they stay up wonderfully. There's nothing worse than droopy socks under your jeans and boots. I wish they were 10% heavier, but all things considered they are just fine for year-round wear. I wear them all day every day.
