Heavy Gear Means More Pressure on Your Feet
Trekking is tough on your feet. The weight of your pack and the rest of your gear doesn’t just change your center of gravity; it also increases the pressure on your feet by weighing you down from your shoulders to your hips, to your knees, to your ankles—all the way to the soles of your feet. Add to that the rough terrain and the often, cold, wet winter weather and you are likely on the way to foot pain, blisters and other foot conditions. That’s when you know you need Thorlos clinically-tested padded socks (CTPS)—to help protect your feet, keep them warm and dry by wicking moisture, and comfortable in your shoes or boots.
“Love these. I put them on and immediately felt the extra cushioning all around, so much so it felt like my boots were not going to fit. But once on I felt as though my feet were being hugged with a super comfy/warm pillow. I felt like this all day and I had walked in the snow.” Jacqueline S.
How Thorlos Trekking / Treking / Trecking Work
Shoes and boots for this activity typically have stiff shanks (the part of the boot between the midsole and outer sole that supports the arch and helps give structure to the shoes/boot). Most heavy-duty footwear is made for winter weather, and has leather uppers that resist moisture and snow. Thorlos clinically-tested padded trekking socks, in combination with properly fitted shoes or boots, are designed to help buffer your feet from pain, shear/friction forces, pressures and moisture. Our exclusive THORLON®, blended with wool and other thermal fibers, provides maximum insulation and wicking—keeping your feet dry, keeping your feet warm, keeping your feet comfortable. Spandex is used to provide additional support and comfort.
“These socks have heavy cushioning and are durable. They keep my feet dry. Having tried many other types and brands, I have settled on Thorlo TKX.” Paul V.
Thorlos clinically-tested padded socks are recommended if your feet hurt during or after your activity to help prevent any foot conditions. The padding is placed precisely where your foot needs protection, and has been clinically shown to reduce blisters, pain, pressures and moisture:
Ball and heel padding: Extra thick cushioning in the ball and heel reduces shock, impact, shear and blisters while on extended hiking trips.
Instep padding: Moderate cushioning protects against boot pressure and allows for a better fit at the arch.
Ventilation panel: Brings wicking to a whole new level, helping to keep feet warm and dry.
“I hiked 45 miles in and out of the Grand Canyon, outlying areas and Sedona trails and vortexes. I have feet issues, wear orthotics, and these Thorlos were the only thing that saved my feet. Everyone else on the trip (eight others) including two experienced guides, had feet issues. I was the only one who walked away, literally with comfortable, pain-free feet. I will only buy Thorlos!” Elaine W.

“I bought two pairs and they are perfect for wearing with my Blunnies. However, I did not anticipate that my girlfriend would love them so much. They seem to keep disappearing so I will need to get some more - in her size so I can get mine back!” Richard W.
“Mostly I’m a week-end backpacker but if I have some buddies who want to do a longer trip and my schedule can accommodate it, I’m there. For those longer days and greater distances, I use the TKX. I usually pack a slightly heavier pack (extra food and clothing), and the padding in the TKX helps cushion my feet and seems to help offset the extra weight.” Rick Mende, Business Development / Product Performance
Reviews for Thorlos TREKKING

For hiking or running, I use only Thorlos. They are the best for my feet!

Best cushion sock I have ever used in several decades of backpacking. Have tried others but none compare to this Trekking sock from Thorlo. For day hikes I like to use medium weight hiking socks from Thorlo (THRXM hiker) or Darn Tough. But none of these others provide the cushion the Trekking sock provides. Be sure you fit your boot with these socks since they are thicker than most. Without a doubt, the Trekking sock is the go-to sock whenever backpacking or whenever the pack weight moves above 20 - 25 lbs.

Whether I am putting on my Navy uniform or grabbing my backpack to knock out some heavy miles on the AT, these socks are essential. They are soft and comfortable but also tough out a full day in the rain or on a small boat. They stand up to days of abuse in my boots and trail runners. And after a wash they are like brand new. I have tried many other brands and standard issues, these are the best!

I wore the KX (hiking) sock every day for 24 years, but switched to the TKX (trekking) while healing from plantar fasciitis & Achilles tendonitis due to a barefoot injury 2 years ago. I now wear the TKX year-round. They are not too hot in the summer, provide sufficient warmth in Maryland winters, and have excellent padding and protection in the important areas. The KX also provided needed support and cushioning while shoeless at home, but the TKX feels like walking on a cloud. And they last 3-4 time longer than average socks. For 26 years I have been recommending them with confidence too everyone I know who complains about their feet.

My feet feel protected, but there are some shoes that I can't wear with these as they are sooooo thick.

Extra comfortable and cushy socks, really thick! Make sure your shoes are not too tight or you won't have room for these fantastic Thorlos.

I wear these socks for casual leisure activities as well as hiking. They serve me all through the year.

I am on my feet all day long and keeping my feet warm & dry is almost as important as sharp tools when working in the shop during the winter months. I even wear them during the summer, when working, with my sandals for the extra cushioning.

These are my socks, and have been for decades. Running, hiking, backpacking, riding, every-day go-to-work, and I sleep in them too. I need no other sock!
