Heavy Gear Means More Pressure on Your Feet
Trekking is tough on your feet. The weight of your pack and the rest of your trekking gear doesn’t just change your center of gravity; it also increases the pressure on your feet by weighing you down from your shoulders to your hips, to your knees, to your ankles—all the way to the soles of your feet. Add to that the rough terrain and the often, cold, wet winter weather and you are likely on the way to foot pain, blisters and other foot conditions. That’s when you know you need Thorlos clinically-tested padded socks (CTPS)—to help protect your feet, keep them warm and dry by wicking moisture, and comfortable in your trekking shoes or boots.
“Love these. I put them on and immediately felt the extra cushioning all around, so much so it felt like my boots were not going to fit. But once on I felt as though my feet were being hugged with a super comfy/warm pillow. I felt like this all day and I had walked in the snow.” Jacqueline S.
How Thorlos Work
Trekking shoes and boots typically have stiff shanks (the part of the boot between the midsole and outer sole that supports the arch and helps give structure to the shoes/boot). Many trekking shoes are made for winter weather, and have leather uppers that resist moisture and snow. Thorlos clinically-tested padded trekking socks, in combination with properly fitted shoes or boots, are designed to help buffer your feet from pain, shear/friction forces, pressures and moisture. Our exclusive THORLON®, blended with wool and other thermal fibers, provides maximum insulation and wicking—keeping your feet dry, keeping your feet warm, keeping your feet comfortable. Spandex is used to provide additional support and comfort.
“These socks have heavy cushioning and are durable. They keep my feet dry. Having tried many other types and brands, I have settled on Thorlo TKX.” Paul V.
Thorlos clinically-tested padded trekking socks are recommended if your feet hurt during or after trekking and to help prevent any foot conditions. The padding is placed precisely where your foot needs protection, and has been clinically shown to reduce blisters, pain, pressures and moisture:
Ball and heel padding: Extra thick cushioning in the ball and heel reduces shock, impact, shear and blisters while trekking.
Instep padding: Moderate cushioning protects against boot pressure and allows for a better fit at the arch.
Ventilation panel: Brings wicking to a whole new level, helping to keep feet warm and dry.
“I hiked 45 miles in and out of the Grand Canyon, outlying areas and Sedona trails and vortexes. I have feet issues, wear orthotics, and these Thorlos were the only thing that saved my feet. Everyone else on the trip (eight others) including two experienced guides, had feet issues. I was the only one who walked away, literally with comfortable, pain-free feet. I will only buy Thorlos!” Elaine W.

“I bought two pairs and they are perfect for wearing with my Blunnies. However, I did not anticipate that my girlfriend would love them so much. They seem to keep disappearing so I will need to get some more - in her size so I can get mine back!” Richard W.
“Mostly I’m a week-end backpacker but if I have some buddies who want to do a longer trip and my schedule can accommodate it, I’m there. For those longer days and greater distances, I use the TKX. I usually pack a slightly heavier pack (extra food and clothing), and the padding in the TKX helps cushion my feet and seems to help offset the extra weight.” Rick Mende, Business Development / Product Performance

The first time I put a pair of Thorlo socks on, my feet told me they were in Heaven! I now wear Thorlos exclusively and my feet are less painful because of it.

they are a comfortable sock, but more of a winter boot style meaning heavier than I expected. they require a lot of extra room in the shoe but would fit perfect in snow boots

These are the ONLY socks my husband wears--winter and summer! They provide cushioning, and they wick well.

I've been wearing them for about 15 years with hunting boots. Combined with a polypropylene liner sock, they are the best protection there is against blisters. The padding sure helps you go those extra miles and carry those heavy loads. I don't wear anything else with a hunting or hiking boot - they are the best!

I've worn these socks for about a decade. They're excellent. Good cushioning and warmth in cold weather. They're durable also. Good value for the price.

Here's what I've learned so far. I've bought socks in the past that worked and others that did not, but I didn't always know why until I took a little time to compare them. Socks seem easy until you have a pair that doesn't work. I've had the same trouble with ankle high, shorties, whatever. Why do these socks work?...because they stay put! I've learned that having sufficient elastic around the instep is critical. If you don't, they just feel sloppy and tend to bunch up underfoot. Beyond that, for me, they had an intermediate amount of padding, not too much and not too little. That being said, I'd say I like a little more padding than most who's socks I've had a chance to look at. These are my favorite all around sock.

I bought these to wear with my LL Bean Maine Hunting Boots. There are warm and comfortable, as well as long lasting.

This is my second time buying these Trekking socks. They are quite thick and heavy (provide a ton of cushoning for long hikes and keep my feet warm) so I thought they would last a long time. They did not. All four pairs I previously bought have holes in the forefoot. I am not sure why they are wearing out in the forefoot and the rest of the sock is in fine shape. I bought a few more but will will probably return to the Hiking socks. They seem to hold up better for me.
