Big Trips = Big Foot Stress & Strain
To get the most out of the Annual Jamboree at The Summit, a week-end camping trip, or the backcountry trek of a lifetime at Philmont, your scout’s feet must be in tip-top shape. Thorlos Official Boy Scout padded socks are the answer. Foot pain, tenderness, and any foot conditions (e.g., blisters) that might occur along the way will detract from his experience. The last thing you’d want to happen is for your scout to cut short a long trek because his feet won’t let him finish! These excursions demand the most protective socks possible. They demand Thorlos.
“I was doing a lot of hiking with the Boy Scouts and the socks I was using just didn’t cut it. I found Thorlos incredibly comfortable and kept my feet dry. I was the only one on out of twenty-five on a 50 mile hike on the Appalachian Trail that didn’t have blisters. In addition to being more comfortable, the Thorlos socks, last much longer than other socks I have used.” David H.
Scouts' Feet at Vulnerable Age
Hiking, trekking, climbing and a host of other outdoor activities put a lot of demands and stress on young feet. Most scouts are at a time in their lives when their feet are growing and developing: the growth plates in the bones do not finish closing until about ages 15 to 17 in boys. This means their feet are more vulnerable to injury than an adult’s feet. So it’s critical to provide effective clinically-tested foot protection.
“My son, who is 14, has had several foot surgeries – he hikes with the Boy Scouts in the mountains – they are the ONLY sock he will wear. He has even said that none of the other socks are even half as good as the Thorlos.” Joan R.
Thorlos: Official Boy Scout Socks Provide Clinically-Tested Padding
Thorlos Boy Scout padded sock styles (KXBSA and LTHBSA) are made with padding that’s been clinically shown to protect the feet from the forces imposed on them by hiking, backpacking and other outdoor activities that can produce blisters, pressure and impact-related injuries. A foot problem while in the backcountry— or even on a simple greenway hike or cleanup project—can ruin the experience. Thorlos Official Boy Scout clinically-tested padded socks (CTPS), enable your scout to get the very most from his scouting experience.
“Thorlos (KX Hiker) are by far the best pair of socks I have ever owned. You guys rock.” Jason K.
Two Styles of Protection
Thorlos makes two styles of its clinically-tested padded hiking socks for scouts:
Clinically-Tested Padded Hiking Socks (KXBSA): For feet that hurt during or after scouting activities. Mid-weight padding in the heel and ball protect the foot from shear and impact forces and prevent blistering. Lace padding protects the top of the foot against boot lace pressure. Recommended for year-round use and most demanding hikes/activities.
See (KX) for the same CTPS in other colors.

Light Hiking Padded Performance Socks (LTHBSA): For feet that do not hurt during or after scouting activities. Primarily made with COOLMAX yarn, utilizes mid-weight padding in in the heel and ball to protect the foot from the shear and impact forces that can cause blistering. Lace padding protects the top of the foot against boot lace pressure. Recommended for the summer season and less demanding hikes/activities.
For moms and dads, we offer the very same protection in a variety of colors with our hiking and light hiking clinically-tested padded socks.
“I do tons of hiking and camping as a Boy Scout Scoutmaster. Your trekking socks are the best when it comes to long trail hikes and maintaining comfort. They wear and last very well through the years of punishing trail climbing, seating and many wash cycles.” Freddie D.
